Independent Man

"Standing more than 278 feet above Smith Hill, the Independent Man has been a fixture of the Providence landscape since 1899...The statue, originally named "Hope,"...has been struck by lightning 27 times. He was removed in 1975 for repairs, and after a brief stint inside a Warwick shopping mall, returned to his perch in 1976." --- from the RI State House Website

What did he buy at the mall?? We don't know but he sure got some super powers from all those lightning strikes!! And he does it ALL BY HIMSELF!!!  "Ahem," says Nibbles Woodaway, better known as the Big Blue Bug. Nibbles helps a little bit too.

Independent Man is made possible by the generous support of Anne Hutchinson Legal Defense, Gaspee Pilates, and What Cheer Savings and Loan. For ages 13 and up.

And David is at last a hero. Until the field is dug up all summer for a fossil excavation.

With his dad still in rehab from battlefield injuries, a big sister doing bad things with high school kids, a baby brother learning to walk, and trying to help his Mom with it all, David is in for a turned-upside-down summer. (Chapter book in development)
